In this post, I’ll walk you through the components and setup of the wireless camera rigs we utilize on our stage during Sunday morning services. Our setup, costing approximately $2500 with wireless capabilities, has evolved over time to meet our specific needs. Let’s dive in!

Central to our rig is the Panasonic Lumix G85, a reliable camera that delivers quality performance at an affordable price point. We’ve opted to use EF style lenses with the Viltrox lens adapter, expanding our lens options and versatility. Specifically, we employ Sigma’s 18-35mm lens for its exceptional quality.

To protect the lens and adjust exposure levels on the fly, we’ve added a variable ND filter to the front. This is essential for adapting to varying lighting conditions on the stage. Additionally, silicone covers safeguard the lens and filter from damage.

Moving on to the rig itself, we’ve chosen the CamVate cage for its compatibility with most DSLRs, including the G85. While slightly bulky, it securely attaches to the camera and provides necessary mounting points.

Adding a top handle from SmallRig enhances handling and stability, along with a monitor mount for the FeelWorld monitor. This setup keeps the monitor low-profile while offering flexibility in positioning. A homemade tally light, affixed with Velcro, provides visual cues for the camera operator.

For power management, we’ve integrated a base plate, short rails, and a V-mount battery plate from SmallRig. This setup offers various power options, including USB ports and DC jacks, powered by a V-mount battery for extended runtime.

For wireless video transmission, we utilize the Teradek Ace 500, a reliable solution at an affordable price point. The transmitter is securely attached to the rig using VHB tape, providing flexibility while minimizing signal interference.

With everything assembled and powered on, our wireless camera rig is ready for action. Despite weighing 8 pounds, the top handle helps distribute weight, ensuring ease of use and accessibility.

While our setup is constantly evolving, we’ve found this configuration to be practical and efficient for our stage needs.

Until next time!
